Disease Risk in Relation to KS
There are a few disease risk increases and decreases that can be associated with Klinefelter Syndrome. The conditions that have an increased risk are autoimmune disorders such as:
Patients with KS also have a slightly higher risk of developing breast cancer than normal males but still a lower chance than that of females. There is also a higher chance if developing non-hodgkin lymphoma and lung cancer.
There are other conditions that XXY patients have a higher risk of obtaining venous diseases such as:
To reduce the risk of these diseases, XXY patients can stay at a normal body weight, quit smoking, do regular physical activity, and avoid standing or sitting still for long periods of time.
Over half of XXY patients have Taurodontism, which is a dental condition where the teeth have large than normal chambers for holding pulp as well as shorter roots. These factors can easily cause tooth decay in these patients but can also be prevented if regular dental checkups and good oral hygiene habits are in practice.
Osteoporosis can be present in KS patients if there is not enough testosterone in the body for long periods of time. This condition causes the bones to become brittle and break more easily. This can be prevented by using testosterone treatment and exercising regularly.

XXY males have a lower chance of developing prostate cancer as opposed to normal males.
The most common condition caused by KS is sterility. Although 50% of males with KS produce sperm, low sperm production can make conception very difficult. There are some assisted fertility services that have been able to use a process known as testicular sperm extraction to enable men to biologically have a child, but these techniques carry a higher risk of the baby having a chromosomal disorder including having an extra X.
